Sharp Objects: Book to Film pt. 2

I thought I’d share some quick thoughts on episodes 4-6 of Sharp Objects since I posted my thoughts on the first three a few weeks ago. You can read my thoughts on the first three episodes here.

Proceed with caution as my thoughts may reveal spoilers if you haven’t read the book and/or watched the first six episodes.

I think the producers have continued to do a great job with keeping to the book as much as possible. Again, I’ve picked up on small scenes and conversations that have been added, but I don’t think they truly change the story.

I think the addition of the Calhoun Day celebration has been the biggest change to the book thus far. And now I can’t even remember exactly why they were shopping for dresses since it wasn’t actually for that party, but I thought the scene with the dressing room was very well done.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I also thought Camille should have hooked up with John by now. I thought it happened the same night of the party John and Ashley got chased out of, but maybe not since that’s the night Camille and Amma really bonded..? Someone help me out here! As long as it still happens I’ll be happy either way.

I can’t believe there are only two more episodes! And I know one has already aired, but I forgot yesterday was Sunday until now (night shift brain). I’ll be watching it later tonight. I’m guessing this seventh episode reveals Adora’s true colors and I can’t wait!

  1. I love this! I’m so enjoying the HBO adaptation. I can’t remember what they were actually dress shopping for…I want to say it was a party, but whatever it was it definitely wasn’t to the scale of Calhoun day. As for the hook up with John…I believe they met in a bar. Amma and Camille hung out after the party.

    1. It’s bugging me about the dress! I feel like I need to skim back through and figure it out. And I think you’re right about John.. for some reason I was convinced it happened after the party, even though at the same time I knew that’s when Camille and Amma really spent time together. But I started watching the next episode (fell asleep before I could finish) and it looked like it was getting there…
