Disclaimer: I’d like to point out that I deleted a significant portion of the Goodreads synopsis. Personally, I like to know as little as possible going into a book, and there are some details revealed in the synopsis that I enjoyed more because I discovered them as the story went on. So read the full synopsis at your own discretion. I don’t think I read it at all before requesting the book. I saw that Ellison had a new book coming out and after loving Lie to Me last year, I requested a copy, no questions asked.
Review: I heard from early reviews that it was very different from Lie to Me, and wasn’t sure what to make of that. It was definitely structured differently and was more of a slow burn, but I still found it to be just as much of a suspenseful page turner. It’s told from multiple perspectives as well as with glimpses into a mysterious past. In the beginning, the family drama that unfolds almost felt like something out of a Jodi Picoult novel, which I loved. The story quickly takes a more sinister turn than any Picoult book I’ve read, however. This type of family dynamic mixed with lies and deceit is the makings of the perfect thriller as far as I’m concerned. Despite the fact that this book is pushing 500 pages, it never felt that way as the chapters are short and Ellison’s compelling writing will keep you guessing and flipping pages well past bed time. This one is definitely worthy of adding to your TBR if you haven’t already!
I would recommend Tear Me Apart to fans of Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult and Her Pretty Face by Robyn Harding.
